The Traka version utilises an iFob key which is accessed in its cupboard with a card or biometrics reader. The user is identified as the key is taken, and there are set limits as to the time in use and which tool cabinets can be operated. Reaching expiry time automatically locks the cabinet, ensuring return of the iFob and in turn creating a 100% audit of the tool cabinet history.

The other clever and practical option is for simple Barcode Access with a swipe card, whereby once programmed using a PC or mobile PDA the card opens the cabinet only to the authorised user. After selected tools have been removed and the last drawer closed then the cabinet automatically locks, and prevents misuse. The appropriate software again provides comprehensive reports by virtue of an integrated user and cabinet database, and the swipe cards - or similar - can also be used in conjunction with storage lockers.
